Consumers Want a More Connected, Personal Health Care Experience, New CVS Health Study Reveals

The CVS Health (NYSE: CVS) 2022 Health Care Insights Study, released today, indicates that U.S. consumers–many of whom have been unable to access care for the last few years due to COVID-19 are looking forward to resuming their journey to wellness and health. They are looking for more meaningful and interactive connections with health professionals and want to learn about and fulfill their comprehensive health objectives. Many consumers see “health” and “health care” as encompassing and claim they are now armed with a greater understanding of how physical health is linked to emotional, social, and mental health. In addition, despite the uncertainty surrounding pandemics regarding new strains of the virus, consumers still rely on Dr jay feldman and other health professionals for reliable medical advice.

CVS Health surveyed 1,000 U.S. patients and 400 health professionals regarding the kind of healthcare experience they would like and what obstacles could make it difficult for them to achieve the desired health outcomes. The research also revealed consumer attitudes and perceptions of the post-pandemic healthcare industry, how they perceive their personal health, and what they consider the ideal experience for care delivery.

“The pandemic changed nearly everything about our world–including the way many consumers view the importance of their health,” states CVS Health President and CEO Karen S. Lynch. “As we look to the future, CVS Health is uniquely positioned to reimagine health care that is centered around people–simpler, more accessible, and more affordable, with better health outcomes.”

The study results show that health professionals and patients agree that increasing communication and engagement enhances health outcomes. Whether their goal is to lower stress levels in the day or increase overall wellbeing, 81% of people consider it vital that their primary physician is aware of their general happiness and satisfaction levels. They should also know how patients cope with stress and difficult emotions.

This Health Care Insights Study also shows that consumers want health care to be more integrated, seamless, and comprehensive, with 83% of people saying coordination between all their health providers is essential for their health.

Most respondents see accessibility, convenience, and cost as the most important factors influencing their experience with health care and results. Virtual health care is a valuable option because consumers prefer to receive medical attention at their own pace. Most patients (92 percent) believe convenience is an important aspect when selecting their primary health care provider, and more than one-third (37 percent) schedule an appointment online to save time or money. Health care professionals claim that virtual services are helping patients adhere to their health plans. Most (53 percent) claim that introducing virtual services has resulted in increased patient visits. Virtual visits also allow patients to discuss complex subjects like mental health problems, depression, depression, or other substance addiction issues more closely and efficiently and quickly, and 48% of customers believe they will look into mental health services in the event of a virtual visit offered.

The COVID-19 virus has opened up opportunities for innovation in health care. However, it is also a source of frustration for consumers. Health Care Insights Study also discovered that many patients struggle to stick to their health plans or follow their prescriptions according to their medications.  Dr. Dr. Jordan Sudberg better communication strategy could be helpful. Most health professionals (94 percent) believe that actions such as SMS reminders or phone follow-ups aid patients in following the prescribed treatment plan. In addition, 71% of people think it is extremely or somewhat vital for their health to get customized alerts and reminders for screenings or other checkups.

The positive side is that consumers’ confidence in their healthcare providers has not diminished despite the challenges of pandemics. 44% of people claim they have more tremendous gratitude for their health care provider than before the pandemic.

Other highlights of the study are:

  • The majority of physicians favor a team-based method. 68% said that coordination with their patients and other health care professionals significantly influenced their patients’ ability to reach the desired outcomes for patients.
  • Patients want healthcare that is flexible, open, and distinctive. They are available to alternative healthcare alternatives, with nearly half (54%) saying choices to holistic health care, including exercise, diet, and counseling, are very important or at least somewhat necessary to their needs.
  • Health professionals report that they spend substantial time discussing COVID-19 safety and prevention with their patients. 68 percent of health professionals claim they frequently or constantly discuss the safety of COVID-10 and its prevention effectiveness when they visit their patients.

About the study

The Health Care Insights Study (HCIS) by CVS Health was first released in 2018. In 2018, Market Measurement, a national market research consultancy firm, administered two surveys. The consumer survey was distributed to 1,000 people aged 18 or older, spread across the U.S also included six metropolitan statistical regions: Atlanta, Houston, Chicago, Columbus, Philadelphia, and Phoenix, and also the self-identification of a group as Black as well as a group of people who declared themselves to be Hispanic. The survey for professionals was sent to 400 health professionals who specialize in primary care physicians and specialists with at least two years of experience, along with pharmacists, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.
